Daily Geek Report – 03-14-2012

Happy Wednesday all.

The week is almost over but the news keeps piling in!!!

Kevin Rose founder of the App company called Milk created their first app over 4 months ago called “Oink”. Oink was an app that let you rate different things at different places, instead of rating the place itself you could rate the contents of the place.. Whether it be food or drink. Milk’s vision is high yield low return. Turn out many apps, give them a try, if they don’t succeed in a few months. Cut the umbilical cord and move on to the next project to not waste time with a sinking/losing ground type app. Oink’s website says the following:

Howdy,

We started Milk Inc. (the company behind Oink) to rapidly build and test out new ideas. Oink was our first test and, in preparing to move onto the next project, we’ve decided to shut it down to help focus our efforts.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined and contributed to Oink. You have been the heart of Oink. We are extremely grateful for all of your effort finding and rating the best things in the places around you. We’ve discovered thousands of awesome pizzas, pastas, coffees, teas… and roller coasters, zoo exhibits, paintings, sculptures, vistas… and sodas, salads, sliders, soups… and so much more.

So long and thanks for all the Oinks! More news from us soon,

The Milk Team
Download your Oink content
We’re shutting down the Oink website on March 31st. To download all of your ratings and pictures, simply enter your username or email address associated with your account.

If you don’t know your username, open the Oink app on your iPhone. Tap on your profile (bottom right), tap “Your activity”, and your username will be displayed in the bar at the top of the screen.

I look forward to the new app that they decide to come out with. Kevin has a solid following and is certain to get one right!

Apple’s market capital is worth a hair over $514 BILLION… That’s a crazy number to even try to fathom. It’s so large.. that it’s only $14 Billion dollars away from being worth more than the entire United States retail sector. It’s predicted that once the new iPad launches Friday that it will over take the retail sector. Lots of money/income due to over priced hardware? Who cares if people are buying it!

HTC has just announced it’s list of 16 phones which will be getting the Android Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade. There’s no date set (it’s in early stages only).. Don’t hold your breath, but know that it’ll be coming!! See the entire list here.

That’s it for today’s edition of the Daily Geek Report. Have a great Wednesday and get out and enjoy this amazing Spring (summer) weather!!!
