Life After Serial

As we approach the holidays there is a lot of traveling to be done and since we live in a world where Serial has ended you may be wondering what some other good options exist. If you haven’t finished or even started Serial you should start there, but these are some of our favorite podcasts that are out there.

  • Bleed Geek Entertainment; our show is always a good time, Matt and I go over some news and just general entertainment topics every couple weeks.
  • This American Life; this is one of the most popular podcasts out there, Serial is set up as a spin off of it. This American Life is a very well produced show that goes over a different story every week.
  • Start Up; from an old This American Life and Planet Money producer, this is a show about starting a new business. It takes cues from the NPR shows and is very well produced and edited, but a very fun story at the same time, make sure to start at the beginning.
  • Stuff You Should Know; this one is pretty much all in the title, explaining different things each week.
  • Accidental Tech Podcast; of course I have to include some tech podcasts, while this one strays more toward Apple its always a good time with plenty of off topic fun.
  • Connected; this is another tech one, but for this one it’s more about the hosts, I enjoy the accents and the fun. This is just one of many great podcasts that is on the Relay FM Network.
  • WTF with Marc Maron; this is one to fill your comedy needs, he sits down with different people and they just bs.
  • The Joe Rogan Experience; this one is in the same group with WTF, your sit down and BS type show.
  • The Incomparable; both a show and a network, these are great panel shows about pop culture and anything they want.

While I have given you many things to choose from I should probably give you a way to do it. While the stock podcast app works fine on iOS it leaves some room for improvement. My favorite podcast app is Overcast, it has a nice UI and has some great features. The only drawback is that to get the best features you have to pay for a one time in app purchase. These features are worth it in my opinion, the Smart Speed alone is worth it, but the app is free to use otherwise. On Android I have been lead to believe that Sticher is the only real option.
