Daily Geek Report 11-25-11

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I’m still feeling the effects of a food coma. Onto the tech news!

With today being Black Friday, there’s always bound to be something “crazy” happening. This year was no different. Apparently a guy was shot at a walmart parking lot in California after they came out w/ their new purchases. Burglar demanded that they hand over the loot, and when they refused, he was shot. And in LA, a woman busted out a can of pepper spray on 20 people (parents who had their kids with even!!!). WTF is wrong with people?!

Last year, google started filtering out autocomplete/instant search services that deal with pirate type sites (BitTorrent, The Pirate Bay, IsoHunt, etc. Well, they’ve taken it a step further and started blocking their propper names from autocomplete and search. they are doing this to stop the “casual” pirater, will it stop pirating, no. will it stop some people? Yes.

If you listen to our podcast, you’d have heard us talk a few times about the AT&T / T-Mobile merger. Well. AT&T announced that they are pulling the tmo acquisition application from the FCC. In doing so, they have to take on a $4 billion dollar loss. They claim that it’s not pulling the deal entirely off the table, but they want to step back and re-focus their efforsts.
That’s it for this black friday edition of the daily geek report. Have a great weekend everyone!

  1. I completely agree, I’ve been with tmo since day one. Which has been since 2002. I haven’t had any problems w/ their service both Cell coverage and Customer based service. And the fact that their rates are VERY competitive if not the best in the industry. I’d hate to see them go under to an over-power like AT&T.
